PUMA FORTIS 5K RUN/WALK MAY 26, 2013

KINGSTON COLLEGE IS AT IT AGAIN

The inaugural PUMA FORTIS 5K RUN/WALK takes place May 26 and by all indications there will be a bumper crowd at this event. Even if I take off my KC hat, you have to admit that the work put in by Rick Case and his team has been tremendous and potent. Rick has ensured total coverage on social, print and electronic media in getting this event to the populace and EVERYBODY will be there. 'Whoever nuh know bout this event nuh born yet'. For some of my international friends not familiar with the vernacular this means 'Anyone not knowing of this event isn't born yet'.

Thumbs up to Rick and the team as I am sure this event will be a tremendous success.

Full details can be had at http://www.facebook.com/Fortis5KRun?fref=ts and I hope to see you all there.

WHEN DID WE GET HERE?

There are a few things that have seemingly eluded my notice until recently. Nevertheless, I find them leaving me befuddled to say the least; downright confused.

  • When did teachers become unable to discipline children at school?
  • When did children get the rite to walk by an adult without saying hello or good morning?
  • How come if a child misbehaves after countless warnings him/her can't be given a good slap?
  • When did parents get the rite to berate teachers in front of students?
  • No prayer in schools?
  • Children DEMANDING things from their parents?
My list is quite exhaustive, however, these are the most mind-boggling I wanted to highlight. I am all for the rites of the child and the whole 9 yards, but children are children and need to be kept in check and disciplined. Children are our offspring not the other way around.

We readily have access to information now more than ever and I see the social degradation occurring due to some of these things. We can't stop our children being exposed to things, however, we must keep pace with what is happening, at least.

My son came home one day complaining that I allowed his teacher to punish him. My simple question was 'and...........?'

We may all think our children are Angels and at times they are.....but not all the time. There is only one thing that I constantly ask of my child, and that is to 'do your best and let God take care of the rest'

I honestly think that the majority of our adolescents have no idea that there are consequences to their actions. The sense of entitlement being shown in some areas is crazy and believe it or not, this sort of thinking will impact everybody.

Some of our policies need to be revisited.

A POEM FOR COLEEN: MY MOTHER

MY REASON FOR BEING
A poem to my mother

Coleen Eugenie Vaz, no words are there to express
Although you had to leave early, you simply were the best
I didn't realize at the time, way back in '77
That the transition you made, was all the way to heaven
Only one favour I can ask, is to meet me at Heaven's gate
And although I always am, please don't be late
You are my reason for being, with things left to do
And on this MOTHERS DAY just know that I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU

Anthrick Sports Management in Collaboration with OVALTINE/CADBURY

Saturday May 18, 2013 is set to make the highlight reels for the year in review. Anthrick Sports Management will be staging its 3rd annual Junior track meet with title sponsors OVALTINE and CADBURY stepping up to the plate to unearth talent across this beautiful island of Jamaica.

The meet will be held at the National Stadium starting at 8:30 am sharp. The one day event will feature elementary schools from all across the island with entrants also confirmed from the Bahamas.

Understanding that motivation is the catalyst for achievement, Anthrick Sports Management Planning Committee Chairman Ricardo 'Ricky' Martin will introduce a champion rural boy and rural girl for the first time. There will also be a champion rural school.

This is definitely the final dress rehearsal before Prep School Champs and all the coaches will be looking to see exactly where their athletes are in terms of preparation.

No expense is being spared to stage this event as Mr Martin insists that this event should rival any track meet held in the island as well as internationally; at this level. He sees no reason why the professionalism should not shine through from now so the athletes get accustomed to a certain type of atmosphere, behaviour and expectation.

The meet will feature Windgauge and Electronic Timing and all the action will be captured in photo by Dwayne 'Termite-Yardie Sports' Richards, the brother of 400m female sensation Sanya Richards-Ross.

The media launch of this cataclysmic event will take place May 16 at The Altimont Court Hotel starting at 11 a.m. sharp. The guest speaker will be none other than Dave Myrie, current principal of Kingston College, who also happens to be the JAAA 1st VP, and member of Racers Track Club executive. He was also a former Principal of Wolmers Boys School.

Valerie Nieta-Robertson QC will convey the vision of Anthrick Sports Management as it is their strong belief that this area is where the main focus should be for future development; not only in sports but in many other areas.

Other sponsors making this event possible are:
  • Cadbury Chocolate Milk
  • Dr Lushus Bakery
  • Lifespan Water
  • Hi-Lyte Sports Drink
  • Fashion 911 Clothing
  • XSOMO
  • Jamaica Events Management - Security
  • Kia Motors
Media Partners:
  • RJR Communications Group
  • Sportsglobe
  • Power 106
The overall management of the meet rests with the capable group Ondirun, under direction from Gregg Scott who also happens to be the coach of Wolmers High School. The cadet corps from Calabar High School will provide assistance to patrons attending the event.

The team of Anthrick Sports Management consists of the following persons:
  • Ricardo 'Ricky' Martin - COO
  • Anthony 'Tunni' Cooke - CEO
  • Tastey Blackman - CRO
  • Dwight Sulph - ITO
  • Valerie Nieta-Robertson QC
Their involvement in sports in steeped in tradition and undoubtedly augers well for our Junior athletes, as their unwavering support will continue to foster and develop athletics in Jamaica. The country possesses a treasure trove of talent and the harnessing and exploitation of this talent is paramount to our (Jamaica's)  continued success.

COME OUT AND SUPPORT THIS EVENT MAY 18, 2013 AT THE NATIONAL STADIUM. ENTRY FEE J$300 ADULTS AND J$100 CHILDREN.

Barcelona Needed This

When you are at the top there is no place to go but down. I really think Barcelona needed this walloping; this has really brought them back to Earth. It was a total demolition job by Bayern Munich and they are deserved finalists.

Frankly I am not that disappointed, everyone knows Barca is one of my favourite teams to watch, but Bayern seemed to be the better prepared and conditioned team in this encounter.

Barca had absolutely no answer for the seven goals and they must be embarassed. Being humbled like this after getting the label of the best team in the world must weigh heavily on their shoulders.

Let's see how Tito Vilanova fares after this episode.
